Print Matters: Zines

Abstract

Print matters (2011) is a collaborative project with contributors from the University of Southampton Library, Winchester Sch of Art, the University of West of England and the Tate Archive and Library. It comprises a group of three exhibitions related to artists' publications, ranging from seminal artists' books produced in the 1960s, to contemporary zines made by Graphic Arts students at Winchester School of Art. A visual journey through the artist's book, curated by Linda Newington, is shown in the Special Collections Gallery on Level 4 of the Hartley Library, and grouped around four themes: beginnings, narratives, interventions and constructions. Follow-ed (after Hokusai) is an exhibition of books inspired by American artist Edward Ruscha, collected and curated by Tom Sowden and Michalis Pichler, shown in the Winchester Gallery. Zines, curated by James Branch and Cui Su, is displayed in the Level 4 Gallery, Hartley Library. A visual journey through the artist's book and Zines: on until 25 March 2011
