Abstract

International audiencePalm vinegar making is a traditional activity of the small village of al-Hiswa in the vicinity of Aden in Yemen. This article describes the full process as well as the other activities and crafts induced by the growing of doum palm trees from an ethnographic viewpoint. In addition a bilingual lexicon of the relevant vocabulary is provided.La fabrication du vinaigre de palme est une activité traditionnelle du petit village d'al-Hiswa, à proximité d'Aden au Yémen. L'article décrit la totalité du processus ainsi que les activités et artisanats liés à la culture du palmier doum d'un point de vue ethnographique. Un lexique bilingue arabe – anglais relatif à ces activités est fourni en annexe
