Residual stresses in cross-rolled polycrystalline copper and low carbon steel are studied. Cross-rolling modifies both residual stresses and crystallographic texture. Consequently, it can be used in order to improve the final properties of a material by introducing a given state of internal stress and by imposing more symmetry to the texture
