Effect of Fly Ash Hybrid Reinforcement on Mechanical Property and Density of Aluminium 356 Alloy

Abstract

AbstractTremendous research is going on Aluminium Matrix Composite (AMC) to cope up with wide use in advanced applications like structural, aerospace, marine, automotive etc. Stir casting is cost effective manufacturing useful to enhance the attractive properties of AMCs. It is also useful to produces composite having isotropic nature. Production of composite material by good quality and low cost reinforcements from industrial wastes is the need of technology. In current work hybrid reinforcement of as received fly ash is used as reinforcement along with alumina. It has been observed that fly ash can be successfully used along with alumina as hybrid reinforcement and it is enhancing mechanical properties. The other major advantage of use of fly ash is of reduction in density of AMC. In current work various mechanical characterizations like tensile, compressive, hardness etc. of AMCs manufactured by stir casting method has been studied. The results show that in hybrid composite superior properties are observed for comparatively lower densities
