Neglected Productive Skills in Content-based Classes

Abstract

AbstractThe dilemma between Content Based Instruction (CBI) and other forms of content teaching with/through/in a foreign language is not yet over. This qualitative study initially aims to provide an overall picture of CBI implementation in Turkey. The data were collected through sitting in content classes and laboratory work courses, observing as non- participant researchers and interviewing the course instructors in Faculty of Science and Arts. The findings revealed that though classes were instructed and the written exams were given in English; the students were reluctant to participate in classes in the target language and their written responses are limited as well
