Resultants and group matrices

Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, we study the resultants of polynomials which are the determinants of polynomial matrices, and we show that the determinant of a group matrix can be expressed in terms of an iterated resultant of a system of polynomials in several variables which are explicitly given in terms of first row entries. We also show how to obtain the block triangulation of block group matrices over a finite field
