Abstract

Nathaniel Goldstein, Class of 1918, served as New York Attorney General from 1943-1954 and was known for his fight against the Klu Klux Klan and pro-Nazi German-American Bund group in New York State. Born on the Lower East Side, he was the son of Jewish immigrants and went on to graduate from New York University as an accountant before obtaining his J.D. from NYLS. After serving as an infantry private in WWI he became an aide to state legislative committees investigating housing and New York City affairs, later working on developing rent control laws in New York State during his tenure as Attorney General.
