Abstract
• “Scores of cases and a number of deaths” reported by Chicago city hospital staff.• Dr. Drake orders that all hospital staff wear masks continually. Order said to be result of hospital staff contracting flu. 25 West Side Hospital nurses sick and 3 dead. 24 nurses sick at Presbyterian Hospital. Reports of sick staff at Wesley and St. Luke’s hospitals.• Hospitals will refuse admittance to visitors. Peter Reinberg, president of county board, closes County Hospital to all visitors except relatives wishing to visit those dying from other diseases.• 198 cases reported in Chicago in past two days. 29 deaths from flu and 15 from pneumonia.• Lake Forest issues public closing order, closing all places of public gathering. 1 death reported• 150 cases in Highland Park. The Exmoor Country Club being used as emergency hospital.• 5 deaths reported for Waukegan.• Quarantine at GLNTS is reimposed. Capt. Moffett: “No one need entertain fears of contracting disease from sailors on liberty, because no sailors who are sick are being allowed outside the station.”• 54 new cases at GLNTS.• Dr. Drake seeks “sick call” every morning in school.
