Geological notes and local details for 1:10, 000 sheets : TM 29 SW and SE Hempnall and Woodton : part of 1:50,000 Sheets 175 (Diss) and 176 (Lowestoft)

Abstract

The area covered by sheets TM 29 SW & SE lies about 15 km\ud SSE of Norwich and is part of a widespread boulder clay - covered\ud plateau drained to the north by the R, Tas and to the east by the\ud Broome Beck. The only settlements are a f e w v i l l a g e s , of which\ud Hempnall and Woodton are the largest, and scattered farms. The\ud area is largely devoted to agriculture. D r i f t deposits cover the\ud whole district, those older than the Boulder Clay being exposed\ud i n the r i v e r valleys only. Solid formations beneath the D r i f t\ud are known.from the records of s c a t t e r e d boreholes and from p i t s\ud t o the w e s t of Hempnall
