Earth Science and Modern-Contemporary art: fingerprints for the safeguard of artworks in view of Fine Arts transportation

Abstract

Nowadays, the replacement of original paintings with perfect copies is among new sly Art-thefts and artworks’ handling for Art expo can increase the problems linked to this aspect. In the last years, lots of scientists have tried to propose new solutions for the safeguard of artworks marking the surface or applying tags, RFID systems, etc. but these solutions are not always allowed. For this reason, the detection of microscopic characteristic features belonging to artworks could be very useful to establish the peculiarity and authenticity of artwork in order to prevent forgery and unpleasant replacement. The current study focuses its attention to the identification and the collection of these characteristics, selecting analytical methods that will be less invasive and more appropriate according to studied artwork. Moreover, the interactive overlapping of images and collected analysis’ results could be useful both in assurance field, in dating and authentication studies and for conservative and research aims, offering a complete view of expounded studies
