Compilation of stratabound mineralisation in the Scottish Caledonides

Abstract

This report is a compilation of\ud information on stratabound mineralisation\ud in the Caledonian terrain of\ud Scotland.\ud The location of the deposits and\ud their host-rock lithologies are shown\ud on the accompanying 1:l million scale\ud map. The deposits are classified\ud according to their chemical composition\ud and estimated size by the use of symbols.\ud The mineral deposit tables include\ud aspects of host-rock lithology,\ud metamorphic grade of the deposit, size\ud and shape of the deposit and chemical\ud data.\ud A bibliography is also included of\ud work published on the stratabound\ud mineralisation of the Scottish\ud Caledonides.\ud The work forms part of the United\ud Kingdom contribution to the\ud International Geological Correlation\ud Programme Project 60, "Correlation of\ud Caledonian Stratabound Sulphides".\ud This contribution commenced in 1974 and\ud is presently centred on a programme of\ud mineral reconnaissance being undertaken\ud by the Institute of Geological Sciences\ud for the Department of Industry. Since\ud 1977 the topic of stratabound mineralisation\ud has been formally established as\ud one of the six main projects of the\ud programme.\ud Similar compilations have been\ud prepared or are in the process of\ud assembly for other segments of the\ud fragmented Caledonian - Appalachian\ud erogenic belt in the following countries:\ud Norway, Sweden, East Greenland, Ireland,\ud Canada and USA
