The design, simulation, and experimentation steps of a novel low-cost, small-size microstrip electromagnetic dual-band bandgap (DB-EBG) structure is presented. The numerical simulations are performed via an in-house-prepared 3D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) package and the experiments are carried out using all Agilent-8714 ES network analyzer. The simulations and measurements confirm that the dual-stopband characteristics can be controlled via the stub parameters
