Sociale integratie op de universiteit: de bijdrage van community vorming

Abstract

To extend our understanding of the influence of community building during the introduction period at the university on the social integration of students, this study examines the relationship between sense of belonging, community building and social integration with peers and teachers at the university. Community building was expected to explain the positive effect of sense of belonging on social integration with peers and teachers. The study found that sense of belonging did have a positive correlation with social integration with both peers and teachers. However, this effect was not explained by community building. The results suggest that sense of belonging is an important factor in the process of social integration at the university and should be taken into account when making policy concerning new students at the university. The importance of community building during the introduction period can be assessed in further research
