Evaluation of variability of the linear attenuation coefficient along the concrete samples
Abstract
This study developed in LFNA (Laboratory of Applied Nuclear Physics), located at State University of Londrina, refers to the technique of gamma ray transmission in different concrete samples in order to characterize these samples for the linear attenuation coefficient and wetting front, in applying these as radiation shielding. For the measurements was used a Cesium source, a detector NaI(TI) (inorganic scintillator, which belongs to the group of alkalicrystal halogen) and a photomultiplier tube ORTEC - model 276 directly coupled to the scintillation crystal NaI (TI) at the end adjacent to the photocathode window shape. A voltage of 1150 V was applied to the tube. Samples of concrete with baríticos residues showed the highest value for the coefficient of attenuation. In relation the wetting front, conventional concrete samples showed the best performance and appear to be viable as a possible shielding for radiation protection, in view of the low power to transport noxious substances through the capillary to the armed structure- info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis
