Synchronization and optimization of semiconductor ring lasers with self-feedback

Abstract

This paper deals with the problem of synchronization and optimization of semiconductor ring lasers. When the frequency mismatch is −20 GHz and the injection coefficient is greater than 2.5, the semiconductor ring lasers in two different configurations (open and closed loops) can all achieve good synchronizations with cross correlation coefficients above 0.95. The robustness of two configurations to frequency detuning are discussed and the results show the synchronization quality of open loop strategy are superior to that of closed loop. Effects of internal parameter mismatches on synchronization quality are also studied. Through modulating internal parameters of semiconductor ring lasers the synchronization quality of two configurations can be optimized. The correlation coefficient of closed loop strategy increases from 0.97 to 0.99, (0.95 to 0.96 about open loop)
