Demolition of the English Hotel and Theater

Abstract

Times change, and the theater was demolished in 1948 to make way for a new J.C. Penney store. Many longtime Indianapolis residents likened the demolition to losing a friend. The last performance in the theater was 1 May, 1948, with the production of Blossom Time. At the time of its destruction it was the longest lived auditorium in Indianapolis having lasted sixty-eight years.Appears in Destination Indiana
