Civil War Veterans at a Church in Auburn, Indiana

Abstract

Governor Morton promoted the growth of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Indiana. The GAR was active in the state into the 1920s. In 1913 these veterans were commemorating the battle of Stones River.On the back of the photo is a note saying they had gathered in commemoration of the Battle of Stone River in 1863. This item was part of the Indiana History Train 2006 exhibit: Faces of the Civil War
