1. 1. A set of case-selection criteria have been presented. Adoption of these criteria will guarantee increased success of bleaching. 2. 2. A technique for the successful bleaching of the discolored root-filled tooth has been presented. 3. 3. The results of a 1 to 5 year postoperative follow-up of eighty teeth have been presented. Results indicate that 75 per cent of the teeth were successfully bleached. 4. 4. An investigation into the case-selection criteria indicated that slight discolorations bleach more efficiently than severe discolorations, gradual discolorations bleach more efficiently than rapid discolorations, teeth should be bleached as soon as the discoloration begins, discolorations due to necrosis or trauma bleach easily, discolorations due to earious exposures bleach with difficulty, one should not attempt to bleach discolorations caused by medicaments or restorations, and age has no effect on bleaching efficiency
