Abstract

The brothers’ parents, Lucius Styles Ball and Maria Bingham Ball, both from Canada, met in Ohio, where they were married in 1846. Lucius was a farmer and inventor. Maria, a teacher, is credited with encouraging her sons to work together. Their first 7 of 8 children were born in Ohio.
