In the project “Du får ikke noget ud af at være en machomand” the authors seek gain insight into how male nursery teachers construct the understanding of masculinity, and how this can be understood in a broader societal context from a social constructivist point of view. The premise for this is the understanding that male nursery teachers as having a special frame of reference as they are active in a workspace that is traditionally seen as feminine. The project is based on a focus group interview with four male nursery teachers who study at the same school. The focus group interview is primarily analyzed using Bronwyn Davies’ and Rome Harré’s theory of positioning. However, concepts from Margaret R. Somer’s theory of narrative construction of identity will also be drawn upon. Subsequently, more of Somer’s concepts are used to discuss the findings in the analysis
