A nocao de sincronismo na leitura e representacao do espaco

By Jorge and Jose Duarte Gorjao

Abstract

The notion of "sincronism" is a general one. It can be used in various areas and contributes to explain certain facts and mechanisms by which these facts are determined. It permits us to relate phenomenon that in most areas of knowledge are usually acknowledged as being disconnected from each other and makes it pertinent to revise certain aspects of the conceptual "web" where SPACE, TIME, FORM and REPRESENTATION are classified as facts and as interpretations. On the bases of the accepted existence of an "operating sincronism" we can reevaluate and clarify fundamental aspects of: the role of symbolic mediation and the meaning of spatial reality; The consequences of changes in the "sincronic order" in the changes of meaning; the concept of "general code" which permits us to introduce the idea of "total image" associated to a paradigmatic construction; the "simbolic space" dependent of that image which will add a new significative dimension to architectural spaceAvailable from Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, Servico de Informacao e Documentacao, Av.
