Abstract

The project was to develop processes to reduce wastes of two different processing facilities: - In the hydrometallurgical processing of Tantalum containing ores and HF and H_2SO_4 containing effluent stream has to be neutralized with lime. Thus annually a mixture of about 9.000 tons CaF_2 and CaSO_4 contaminated with oxides by metals of Mn, Fe, Ti are produced. A new process has been developed to decompose the effluent waste by pyrohydrolysis in a fluid bed reactor. Thus reducing the amount of sludge of about 90% and to recover the F contents in form of HF. - In the hydrometallurgical winning of APT big amounts of Na_2SO_4-conting wastewater arise. It was demonstrated that it is possible to convert the dissolved salt into the main chemicals NaOH and H_2SO_4 by application of the electrodialysis with bipolar membranes.
