Full scale trials in level ice with Canadian R-class icebreaker

Abstract

Full scale trials in ice with the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Sir John Franklin were carried out on the North East coast of Newfoundland in February, 1991. Ship and ice measurement programs were extensive. This paper presents the results of the trials, and a simple model for thrust in ice as a function of the environmental parameters.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye
