Morphometry of a Pre-Hispanic Dog From Northwestern Argentina (Ad 800-1200)

Abstract

A detailed morphometric description of a dog skull from the pre- Hispanic archaeological site La Isla de Tilcara (northwestern Argentina, ca. AD 800-1200) is presented. The resulting data were compared with those of dog skulls from other South American archaeological sites to establish dog morphotype. The examined skull belonged to a small, long-snouted dog, similar to the smallest morphotypes from the Central Andes.Fil: Belotti López de Medina, Carlos Raúl. Universidad de Buenos Aires.
