TRACING VLADAN ŠVACOV’S FOOTSTEPS: CLASSICAL DRAMATURGY IN POSTDRAMATIC TIMES

Abstract

In the first part of this paper we analyze the legacy of Croatian dramaturg, theatre-director and university professor, Vladan Švacov. Our focus of interest is Švacov’s posthumously published work dedicated to the issue of classical dramaturgy, as well as the legacy of Švacov’s pedagogical practice at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. In this paper, we also comment on Švacov’s posthumously published book titled Classical Dramaturgy. Antropography of Classical Drama. In the second part of this paper we discus recent trends in the research of classical drama with special emphasis on »performance reception« of classical drama today
