Mitos, magia e ilusionismo: “Amigos mexicanos”, una nouvelle de Juan Villoro

Abstract

The present article approaches the tale “Amigos Mexicanos”, by Juan Villoro, comprised in the book Los culpables [The Guilty], from the standpoint of the role of illusionism and impersonation as agents that revel a truth, which have the capacity to intervene in reality. By means of various definitions of magic, illusionism and work of art, we analyze a character-magician-illusionist, his meta-literary function, and his capacity to build reality, cement and reveal the identities of the rest of the characters and the environment. It is established that the way in which illusionism, by means of a first deceit, may contest the myths and preconceptions regarding the world, helping to alter it, and by acting according to the will of one who uses illusionism, it finally becomes actual magic.El presente artículo aborda la obra “Amigos mexicanos”, del escritor Juan Villoro, incluida en el libro Los culpables, desde la perspectiva del papel del ilusionismo y la suplantación como agentes reveladores de una verdad, que tienen la capacidad de intervenir en la realidad. Mediante distintas definiciones de la magia, del ilusionismo y de la obra de arte, se analiza un personaje-mago-ilusionista, su función metaliteraria, su capacidad de construir la realidad, así como de cimentar y revelar las identidades de los demás personajes y el entorno. Se establece la manera en la que el ilusionismo, mediante un primer engaño, puede desafiar los mitos y las preconcepciones sobre el mundo, ayudando a alterarlo, y al accionar según la voluntad de quien lo utiliza se erige finalmente como verdadera magia
