A Comparative Analysis of Male and Female Meeting Planners and Event Managers

Abstract

Six years of data confirms that females earn more than males in the field of event management; however, the opposite inequity occurs historically in the older more established field of meeting planning. The investigator poses a hypothesis that female meeting planners have historically been paid less than their male counterparts due to the history of the development of the profession. Using empirical data from both meeting planning and event management studies, the investigator suggests that to achieve salary equity, females must broaden their planning skills to include strategic as well as tactical functions
