UND football player John Hancock in his football uniform. John Hancock was a member of the Varsity Football and Track teams, and also the editor-in-chief of the Dakota Student newspaper. After graduating in 1903, he served in the Navy and earned the rank of Commander. He then went to New York and became a partner in the Lehman Brothers\u27 Investment Bank. Prominent also in civic affairs, between 1933 and 1947 Hancock assisted the National Recovery Administration and the Office of War Mobilization and was a member of the War Resources Board. He also served as General Manager of the U.S. Delegation of the United Nation\u27s Atomic Energy Commission. As an Alumnus, he was the Director of the Alumni Association and was a substantial contributor to the University Development Fund.
