To support the remote sensing of the outer planets, absorption spectra of broadened by were recorded at room temperature using two Fourier transform spectrometers. The data from 1260 to 2070 cm-l and 3420 to 4045 cm-' were obtained at 0.0056 and 0.012 cm-l resolution (unapodized), respectively, with the FTS located at Kitt Peak National Observatory / National Solar Observatory. The remainder of the spectral data from 55 to 328 cm"' was taken at 0.0056 cm-l with the FTS at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Some 630 Hz-broadened linewidths of were obtained with precision of to for the four strongest water bands: rotational at O. cm-*; at 1595 cm-l; at 3657 cm-l and at 3756 cm`l. The intensity of the weakest measured transition was 0.0065 at room temperature. Within a band, the widths varied from 0.101 to 0.033 at room temperature for O.-J 12 and O Ka Systematic patterns were detected in the widths as a function of AJ, J, Ka, and asymmetry.
