Abstract

columnofHerculesX-1ispresented.Themechanismisshowntoachievemeanparticleenergiesof30TeVunder veryreasonableassumptionsabouttheenvironment,and250TeVisavailableundersomecircumstances.The highestindividualenergyattainedisalmost1PeV.Theprotonsemergeintheformofanarrowbeamdirectedat theinneredgeoftheaccretiondisk,whichisfavourablebecauseofthereducedpowerrequirementandpresence oftargetmaterialfor-rayproduction
