On January 31, 2013, the Commission adopted revisions to standards for six different credential preparation programs based on recommendations from the 2011 English Learner Authorizations Advisory Panel. These updates are part of the Commission’s ongoing review process to ensure that program standards remain current and reflect new research in the field. This alert provides information on the process and timeline for transitioning to the revised program standards adopted on January 31, 2013. Background The Commission has a responsibility to ensure that each set of adopted standards represents current research and thinking in the field of English learner education, and that the program standards guide programs in preparing the candidate for the authorization to provide instruction to English learners and/or to work appropriately with English learners and their families.
