Ile diserte et loi du silence

Abstract

Une des formes structurantes de la société corse traditionnelle consiste en une « loi du silence » qui fonctionne vers l’extérieur en dissimulant le corps social sous les apparences de la théâtralité et du mutisme, vers l’intérieur en tant que pensée structurante, sous les apparences du discours familial ou privé. La textualisation anthropologique (par distanciation ou implication) se heurte à cette invisibilité/illisibilité. L’analyse d’un corpus de correspondance des environs de 1900, en tant qu’il dévoile le code du silence dans le langage même de la quotidienneté et sa mise en scène, propose une autre approche.One of the structuring forms of traditional Corsican society consists of a « law of silence ». This law operates on the outside by concealing the social group under a façade of theatricality and of silence, and functions within Corsican society as organising thought beneath an apparent display of domestic or private discourse. Anthropological written production (using either the distancing or the involvement method) comes up against this invisibility/illegibility. The analysis of a corpus of correspondence dating from around 1900, in so far as this written material discloses the code of silence in the very language of everyday life and its mise-en-scène, proposes a different approach
