1 Animal Movement Standstill: Economic Assessment of the Impact Upon the Livestock Industry in England Summary

The attached economic assessment provides a preliminary analysis of the impact of a 20 day movement standstill on the economics of the livestock industry. It has been prepared in consultation with key industry and professional interests, but remains the responsibility of DEFRA. It necessarily builds on incomplete data and consequential assumptions. As recommended by the FMD inquiries, more detailed assessments of risk, costs and benefits will be carried out and DEFRA will do this in consultation with industry and other stakeholders before more permanent movement rules are introduced, early next year
