Transition from Electrical Telegraph Techniques to Linear Systems Theory
The paper sketches a line of historical continuity ranging from telegraph pioneers and early submarine cable technology of the 19th century to some aspects of modern systems and control theory. Special emphasis is laid on the intermediary role of the scienti c work of Wilhelm Cauer (1900-1945) on the synthesis of linear networks.
