identifies electrons in the central barrel with momenta above 1 GeV/c by using their transition radiation emitted when crossing the boundary between materials with different dielectric constants. Furthermore the TRD provides fast (6 µs) triggering capability for high transverse momentum (pT> 3 GeV/c) charged particles. During data taking, the TRD electronics requires an early wake up signal from the forward detectors and/or the fast time of flight (TOF) detector. This wake up signal is called pretrigger . The delay for the pretrigger is 700 ns from the interaction up to the arrival at the front-end electronics which corresponds to an arrival of the L0 of the central trigger processor (CTP) of above 900 ns.
