Evolving requirements for ultra-wideband wireless communications applications had lead to an interest in much higher data rates (1 Gbps or higher) as well as operation at longer ranges and in more severe multipath environments. In this paper we examine some of the key system level design considerations that affect system performance and complexity when scaling to these more demanding applications. In particular, we examine how signal bandwidth and modulation choices impact modulation efficiency and system performance due to multipath fading in indoor channels. 1
