This thesis analyzes a new approach to indexing time-series. Indexing time-series is more problematic than indexing text since the data is more compact. We investigate the use of signature files to index the time series and we also propose a new method to index the signature files to speed up the search of large time series. We have conducted a large number of tests with signature files and we feel confident that signature files are a working solution. We also shown that it is possible to get high precision from a signature based system. The proposed index structure, the signature tree, will also offer good search performance. We also compare the performance of signature files and our proposed signature tree to an ordinary linear search of the data and a B-Tree index. Our conclusions are that the signature files might be a good solution for some applications but the B-Tree will always beat the signature file based systems at search speed. The implementatio
