Factors Affecting Speaking-Rate Adaptation in Task-Oriented Dialogs

Dialog systems should be able to automatically determine an appropriate speaking rate for each utterance. In a small corpus of billing support dialogs we identified factors accounting for 18 % of the variation in agent speaking rate. Simple adaptation to the user accounts for little, rather it is the dialog state and dialog acts in the local context which seem to matter more
