Abstract

The essay 'Lula is pop!': a critical analysis of a 'celebrity' politician is an initial attempt of stimulating a theoretical debate and further study on the construction of the image of the current president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva in the media. This piece has focused on the element of the 'category of experioence/, and on the emphasis placed by the media on 'personal experience', highlighting how these factors played a key part in the construction of the image of Lula as a unique star persona in 2002. Lastly, this debate has been situated within two significant socio-political contexts, which are also the co-called 'evils; of post-modernity Western cultures, which have been accuses of valuing excessive individualism over solidarity
