The study’s findings show that although women managers in Hong Kong and\ud Britain encountered many of the same circumstances in their careers, they experienced,\ud interpreted and responded to them rather differently. This paper argues that a part of the\ud explanation for different interpretations and responses to the same experiences can be\ud found in the opposing meanings given to the notion of equality which are related to the\ud social understanding of gender differences. This paper examines how differences in the\ud meaning of equality and in the relationship between men and women can be seen\ud manifested in women’s workplace relationships
