A sliding mode scheme for optimal braking and estimation of road/tyre friction detection

By Nitin Patel, Christopher Edwards and Sarah K. Spurgeon

Abstract

Metadata only entryResearchers are constantly trying to enhance the safety, driving comfort, traffic circulation and reduce environmental pollution associated with vehicles. Presently there are many on-board controllers available to improve safety and vehicle handling including anti-lock brake systems (ABS), traction control systems (TCS), adaptive intelligent cruise control, active yaw control and active suspension systems. However these control systems only perform to their full potential if they have access to accurate information about the vehicle behaviour in real time
