Frozen core effects on nonexponential photon echo decay in ruby at high fields

Abstract

Photon echo measurements for the 4A2(-12) \u2192 E(-12) transition in dilute ruby for magnetic fields up to 38 kG are reported. A nonexponential decay of the form I = I0exp - (4t/Tm)x was obtained with x = 1.96 and Tm = 131 \u3bcs at high fields. A calculation of Tm using the Klauder-Anderson spin \u201csudden jump\u201d dephasing model, with allowance for the frozen core, gave a value of 102 \u3bcs.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye
