Document Management for Medics

By Rebecca McCready and Newcastle University

Abstract

This online practical tutorial covers techniques using MS Word for managing and formatting a complex document such as a patient study, where biopsychosocial information is combined with social studies, although the content will be suitable for many other types of coursework. In particular, this tutorial builds upon skills covered in http://fms-itskills.ncl.ac.uk/pgres/dmcl and http://fms-itskills.ncl.ac.uk/pgres/dmit, to look at how styles, captions, cross-references, images and tables can all be used and managed effectively, as well as more specific techniques such as using MS PowerPoint to create complex diagrams such as timelines, annotated maps and family trees, and then inserted into Word in the most effective way.
