Using GIS to estimate the replacement potential of solar energy for urban dwellings

By R. M. Rylatt, Stuart Gadsden and K. J. Lomas

Abstract

The paper has strongly influenced the development of the Decorum Model (Gupta, Oxford Brookes) and, more generally, provided a route to managing city carbon emissions (eg the Oxford Climate Change Action Plan, final report for the Oxford City Council Environment Scrutiny Committee (http://www.oxford.gov.uk/files/seealsodocs/56973/OCCAPfinalreport-JMD.pdf). \ud The paper is one of 8 peer refereed journal articles and 2 refereed conference articles, which includes Outputs 2 and 3, that have flowed from the GIS-based energy and carbon emissions modelling work of Rylatt. \ud Gadsden's PhD work contributed to this paper. He was supervised by Rylatt, with Lomas as second supervisor. Rylatt was the lead author
