Sužene mogućnosti mladih u Hrvatskoj: perspektiva (samo)ograničavanja

Abstract

--------------- IN ENGLISH: The chapter analyses determinants of the narrow opportunities for social mobility and accomplishment of the professional aspirations of Croatian youth. The first basis for a discussion on social stratification lies on the nationally representative data from the surveys conducted at the Institute for Social Researcher in Zagreb (in 2004 and 2010) and on the nationally representative data from the surveys conducted on the students (in 2010) and on the young population (in 2013). This analysis employed standard socio-demographic variables, such as gender, age and residential status, alongside with educational status and occupation of both parents. The results on listed variables indicate a relatively low level of social mobility in Croatia, with expected perpetuation of this trend due to exceptionally high correlation between social status and enrolment at the university studies. The second basis for discussion reveals the channels through which value patterns and socio-economic situation in the country, marked by economic stagnation and high unemployment, present the elements of (self)limiting perspective for realisation of youth professional aspirations
