Extractive activities start up and management: a computer assisted specially developed Prevention through Design approach

Abstract

The task of an effective risk analysis and management at the extractive sites, compliant with the European regulations, upon which the activity plan and management should be based, involves a proactive approach, taking all the involved parameters into account. In such a situation, the proactive approach requires an in-depth risk analysis based on careful evaluations of the possible project options, and on detailed knowledge of the site situation and scheduled operations. Here a quite interesting methodology is discussed, based on the realisation of a computer-assisted interactive recording technique able to support the evaluation of both the general and special safety aspects for extractive units and general extractive activities. The work was carried out by the Department of Land, Environment and Geo-engineering of Politecnico di Torino (formerly Author of special Guidelines for the extractive activities) in co-operation with the S H Extractive Industries Inspectorate branch of Provincia di Torino
