Abstract

The importance of Mathematics can be viewed from two different perspectives; (i) Mathematics is important because it provides essential tools and ways of thinking required for a successful labour force, and (ii) Mathematics is important because it is one of humanity's great cultural achievements (Putnam, Lamphert, and Peterson, 1990). The significance of Mathematics in the school curriculum, therefore, appears to be two-fold. Mathematics knowledge is a life skill; the study of Mathematics is culturally relevant
