Scans of slides taken by Peter Kunstadter in the ethnic Lua community of Ban Pa Pae, Changwat Mae Hong Son, Thailand in May 1967. Slide rolls 591, 596 (marked 91, 96 on slides).

Detailed description of image contents: Ceremony to honor Phi Cao Nia, spirit that guards over streams, causes rain, protects the village from epidemics and disasters, protects individuals from disease, and cures people. Roll 591: trays of offerings prepared at headman's house, carried across stream to the Haw, a spirit house built for Cao Mai. Roll 596: preparations for ceremony; ceremony.
