Twenty-four abdominally obese men between the ages of39 and 64 participated in a CLA supplementation study.4 The study was double-blind and placebo controlled, meaning that neither the researchers nor the subjects knew who was getting the supplement and who was getting the placebo. Fourteen of the men received 4.2 grams of CLA a day for four weeks, while the other ten received the placebo. The researchers measured quite a number of variables, including health-related variables like serum cholesterol. However, the variables we care about are body measurements, like waist size. Let’s get right down to the results. The subjects taking CLA experienced a significant 0.6 cm decrease in sagittal abdominal diameter (SAD), an indicator of abdominal obesity, while the placebo group didn’t. Waist size also decreased significantly by 1.5 cm in the CLA group but not in the placebo group
