Novelty, Innovation and Transformation in Educational Ethnographic Research

This edited volume tackles the theoretical, empirical and methodological questions of how novelty can be determined in and through educational ethnographic research. Responding to the increasing need for new and innovative methodological and theoretical foundations for the field, chapters draw on a variety of empirical, critically examined data sets such as observation protocols of pedagogical practice, digital communication and visual representations to bridge the gap between empirical and theoretical approaches, ultimately combining different traditions and discourses within educational ethnography. Collating perspectives and accounts from over 30 authors based in European centers of excellence such as Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Denmark, the book provides an epistemological reflection on what we can understand as ‘new’ in theoretical and methodological research. This volume will be of use to researchers, academics and postgraduate students involved with research methods in education, ethnography and the theory of education more broadly. The Causes, Counseling and Prevention Strategies for Maladaptive and Deviant Behaviors in Schools

Governments, organizations, and schools around the world are committed to providing a safe and friendly learning environment for students. However, bullying, truancy, violence, discrimination, and addiction are still common in schools around the world due to students' maladaptive and deviant behaviors. While educators have focused on such issues over the past few decades, with the boom in internet use, the impact of adverse events in schools has expanded from offline to online, and this has become a globally important public health issue. In addition, adverse events continue to occur, even as educators work to intervene and prevent these events. Due to these issues, it is necessary to continue to explore the causes and effects of these maladaptive and deviant behaviors and the effectiveness of interventions over time. These findings will help governments, organizations, educators, and communities worldwide to address and prevent the occurrence of maladaptive and deviant behaviors in schools. Therefore, our journal presents a Special Issue on this topic. In this Special Issue, 18 articles have been included, covering editorials, research papers, systematic literature reviews, commentary articles, and more. We believe that this Special Issue reprint will contribute to understanding the reasons behind and counseling strategies for improving maladaptive and deviant behaviors in schools

Over two million years ago, when beings identifiable as belonging to the human species left their first traces on the planet, insects had already been present for approximately four hundred million years. Whether airborne, terrestrial, aquatic, or concealed within the earth, they have served as carriers of life, disease, suffering, death, pleasure, annoyance and fear. In every corner of the planet (and perhaps even beyond), they have invariably accompanied the existence of various creatures, including humans. Hence, it comes as no surprise that insects have been extensively depicted in various forms of human cultural expression, ranging from legends and myths to art, literature, medicine, cuisine and religious practices. Among other insects, crickets are a constant presence in Classical Chinese poetry. This study will embark on an exploration of the early stages in the development of the intricate symbolic and metaphorical system associated with crickets in poetry, drawing from the two oldest collections of Chinese poetry: the Book of Poetry and the Elegies of Chu. However, its primary focus will be directed towards the presence of crickets in the poetry of Du Fu (712-770), one of the foremost Chinese poets. Specifically, the study will delve into examining how these insects are employed, their function, context, and the imagery intertwined with them within Du Fu's poetic works

How Europeans Understand Solidarity, Reciprocity and Fairness in the EU

This edited book sheds new light on the understanding of solidarity, reciprocity and fairness from the perspective of European Union (EU) citizens and, with this, how cohesion in the EU can be achieved. Drawing on extensive focus group research across nine countries, the book presents the results of this large project to assess what citizens think they owe their fellow Europeans in other parts of the EU. It brings together participants from different social milieus – highly qualified professionals, low-paid and unemployed persons and young adults – and reveals much about how average citizens think and talk about the issues and crises facing the EU, such as the reasons behind their beliefs and the statements they develop when discussing such issues, and therefore, provides a deeper insight into how exactly EU citizens understand solidarity, reciprocity and fairness when it comes to transborder relations and their attitudes towards EU cohesion.
